Johann Strauss wrote thePizzicatoPolka, scored for String Orchestra with glockenspiel, with his brother Josef for a trip to St Petersburg. On the evening the novelty piece was introduced, such was the crowd's enthusiasm that it was performed ninetimes. Similar scenes followed wherever the work was performed and it became one of the pair's most popular works.
