The year 1810 marked a turning point in the history of synagogue music. In Seesen am Harz, the Jewish chamber agend Israel Jacobson had an organ installed in the synagogue of his 'religious and industrial institute'. The success story of the synagogue organ began, Jewish music took off in Europe and became an important part of the cultural tradition. By the Reichspogromnacht in 1938, over 130 synagogues owned organs in the territory of the German Reich. With the present edition we want to make a contribution to the 1700th anniversary of Jewish life in Germany and sharpen the focus on this important chapter of European-Jewish cultural history. In addition to works by Louis Lewandowski, Joseph Sulzer, Herman Berlinski and Jehan Alain, the wonderful Passacaglia and Fugue by the Frankfurt organist Siegfried Würzburger were recorded. This organ work on the prayer 'Kol Nidre' has hardly been published in Europe.
