Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)
'Seven minutes of joyful noise with a quiet bit in the middle' is how the composer describes this overture which was written for the Sussex Symphony Orchestrabased in Brighton. The outer sections reflect the rich history of the area with mighty castles at Arundel, Bodiam and Herstmonceux, while the central part is a contemplative picture of the South Downs. A recording of this work has been issued by AS V on a compact disc entitled 'British Light Overtures -1'.
