Elliot del Borgo

Scene de La Mer

For student string orchestras this expressive tone poem beautifully portrays the changing moods of the sea with soaring melodies and lush, late-Romantic harmonies. The lyrical opening theme should be played with great sensitivity and warmth, while the dramatic closing theme should be played with energy and passion. Playing with clarity, precision and balance is particularly important in fugal passages. In the final analysis, Del Borgo says players shouldn't be afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves.
