Graupner based his Concerto in G Major GWV 329 on the Baroque church sonata design with its slow – fast – slow – fast movement sequence. Except in the second movement, the composer departs from the Italian formal model based on Vivaldi’s alternation of tutti ritornellos and solo episodes, however. The third movement is extraordinary in that it begins in unison, followed by bars that create excitement via piercing suspensions and chromatic turns...
