. ... reflects the moods of the city late at night. The piece has a dark, film noir sound, with prominent trombones and flugelhorns, often accompanied only by drums and bass. The piece is based on the blues song-form, using both 12 and 24 bar choruses with a swing feel at a medium-slow tempo. There are solos tempo. There are solos for alto sax and trombone. Solos for bass, alto sax, trombone. Doubles: altos: flute; tenors: clairnet; baritone: bass clarinet; trumpets 1: bucket mute; trumpets 2-4: flugelhorns. Recorded on the Newyorkestra Big Band CD 'Urban Landscapes'.
