Pulse was commissioned by the jazz program at Virginia Tech. Although this chart is a guitar feature, the solo part will work well for vibraphone, saxophone, or trumpet as well. This chart starts with a 'pulsing' figure in the brass section and breaks into a funky, rock-influenced groove, over which the melody statement ensues, giving way into the solo section. The pulse figure returns near the end of the chart over which a hinting of the original melody appears. This chart is medium difficult for your band, but solo part is difficult (q=132). Trumpet to Bb above staff.
