Featured on Woody Herman's 1986 GRAMMY Nominated album, '50th Anniversary Tour,' this John Fedchock arrangement captures the unique elements of Thelonious Monk's composition and couples it with the exciting signature sound associated with the best of Herman's 'Herds.' Solos are featured in 4th trumpet, 1st tenor and 1st alto parts (originally played by Woody on soprano sax). The band gets a workout in dynamic ensemble interludes as well as the culminating shout chorus. An optional open solo section is also included. This would make a great band showcase for a festival or competition. Ranges: Trumpet 1: to F6; Trombone 1: to A4.
