The volume concentrates on the characteristic agreements and differences in French and German music and musical development during the 20th century from an historico-aesthetic point of view. Particular attention is given to movements unique to one country such as Expressionism and Neue Sachlichkeit on the one hand and Musique concrète and Musique acousmatique on the other and the reasons for their lack of equivalent in the other country.
