Descrizione:
The compositions by the Swiss Joseph Lauber (1864 - 1952) who lived half of his life in the 19th century and the other half in the 20th century, are related more to the late Romantic period than to the modern one. His early works show the influence of German Romantic music whereas later on he was strongly influenced by his stay in Paris and by French composers, especially by Jules Massenet and Claude Debussy. On top of that, he felt closely connected to the Swiss music tradition. It is a combination of these three elements which is reflected in all his compositions and which forms a unique connection between the grave Alemannic trait and the dynamics of the Romantic Age. Lauber had profound knowledge of instruments and the possibilities they offered. Moreover, his instrumentation was excellent and his chamber music is outstanding.
