This 15-minute piece was written in 1994 by one of Europe's most eminent and influential composers. It was described by the Los Angeles Times in these terms: ... the inner voices of strings and winds are framed, punctuated and sabotaged by stabbing accents from the mallet instruments and piano. And therein lies the rugged beauty. Paradoxically, this is seductively mechanistic music.
