As with many cantatas by Homilius Kommt, frohe Völker, herzu, for the 4th Sunday after Epiphany, is notable for its unusual formal structure, with two movements in a cantata of only three movements set for chorus. The generally festive, thankful character of the work, without references to the Gospel for a particular Sunday, makes this cantata, characterized by its singable melodies, a work which can be used on many Sundays throughout the church year.
