The excerpts in this transcription were chosen from the choruses of this oratorio and include both lyric and dramatic types. The introductory solo recitative is followed by three choral sections: 'Baal, we cry to thee', 'He that shall endure', and 'Be not afraid'. The instrumentation and scoring of this transcription is designed to employ the tonal resources of the entire brass choir: 3 cornets, 2 trumpets, 4 horns, 4 trombones, 2 baritones (T.C./B.C.), 2 tubas.
