Kaleidoscope 2 for string quartet was created as a arrangement of an arrangement. The saxophone quartet 'Winterkreis' ('Winter circle'), written in 1991, is the first step in this chain of arrangements. The composer was the soprano saxophone player in the Aargauer Saxophonquartett at the time, and he wrote this piece for himself and his colleagues. In 2007, he wrote a arrangement of the 'Winterkreis' on behalf of the casalQuartett, transferred into the summer and rethought from saxophones to string instruments. And now, after another 10 years, the same basic idea is transformed into another new kaleidoscope of extended possibilities of pattern, this time very often with the help of a clicktrack, which allows for further overlays, friction and mergers. Kaleidoscope 2 was written for the Galatea Quartet and premiered in 2017. The clicktracks may be requested from the publisher.
