Commissioned by the American Composers Forum for the ChoralQuest program, composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha Tate created Chipota in residence with a middle-level choir within the Chickasaw Nation in his home state ofOklahoma. The twomovements, “Hashiat Kochcha (Sunrise)” and “Loksi Hakshop (Turtle Shells)” were created as classical choral works comprised of traditional Chickasaw melodies, rhythmic textures andlanguage.
