This mass, known as the Theresienmesse, was the fourth of six masses which Handel had been commissioned to write by Prince Nicolaus II in celebration of the name day of his wife, Princess Maria Hermenegild (Handel wrote one each year for six years). This work, composed in 1799, is for SATB soli, SATB chorus with organ/piano accompaniment.
