Phares, a Suite for two guitars by the Italian composer Paolo Devecchi, was commissioned by the Gruber- Maklar Guitar Duo. It is a descriptive work inspired by lighthouses and the Jules Verne novel The Lighthouse at the End of the World. Two the movements, Vasquez and Kongre!, take their names from that novel. Ar-men and Le Four, the two other movements are named after two French lighthouses. The influence of Debussy is present in this descriptive and highly dramatic work which has been particularly well received by audiences.
