The Austrian composer Carl Zeller (1842-1898) did contribute a great part to the glory of the Golden Era of the Viennese operetta in which Johann Strauss jr., Franz von Suppe and Karl Millöcker were the big names. The music of Der Vogelhändler is very sparkling with almost folksong melodies and even ingenious constructed finales. The most beloved title of this operetta is Ich bin die Christel von der Post, a song that has also been on the repertoire of many opera Sopranos. (Soprano and Concert Band)
