Written as a response to the events of September 11, 2001, 'American Anthem' utilizes the principal motives that are heard in 'The Star-Spangled Banner', which is to the composer the most patriotic song and the true American anthem. This piece also celebrates the life of the composer's father-in-law and mentor David Leon Adams, a great musician and World War II veteran, who died during the completion of this work.
