Suono corale pieno nella buona tradizione britannica! Spartiti di John Rutter
John Milford Rutter (nato il 24 settembre 1945 a Londra), John Rutter in breve, è uno dei più noti compositori contemporanei di musica corale.
Mentre studiava ancora musica a Cambridge, Rutter creò le sue prime opere corali e le registrò con il Clare College Choir sotto la sua direzione. Tra questi il popolare “Shepherd's Pipe Carol” (composto all'età di 18 anni) e il suo “Gloria” per coro misto, fiati, percussioni e organo.
Il suo talento e la sua abilità musicale hanno fatto guadagnare a John Rutter la posizione di direttore musicale al Clare College all'età di 30 anni – questo, a sua volta, ha aiutato il coro del college a salire sulla scena internazionale sotto la direzione di John Rutter.
Dopo soli quattro anni in carica, Rutter decise di dimettersi dal suo incarico nel 1979 e di concentrarsi completamente sul suo lavoro compositivo e artistico, ad esempio come produttore di registrazioni del coro da camera Cambridge Singers , che aveva fondato (discendente da ex membri del coro del college).
“Un ‘contemporaneo’ Compositore: La musica corale di Rutter può essere ascoltata e cantata?” - Sì!
Chiunque pensi al “contemporaneo” una musica che pensa solo a composizioni rigorosamente seriali e discordanti non rende giustizia a questo aggettivo. Dagli anni '70, il desiderio di armonie chiare, strutture melodiche e ritmi interessanti (ma non troppo difficili) ha portato allo sviluppo di un nuovo stile musicale nella musica corale e sacra (ma non solo!), che è diventato un attributo ingombrante “contemporaneo” vita completamente nuova. E così anche la musica di John Rutter può essere classificata nello stile “Postmodernismo”, che, tra l'altro, è diretto contro rigidi principi e forme di composizione. “Tutto va bene” si potrebbe dire. Oppure (inteso in senso positivo): “Che m'importa dell'opinione di Adorno!”
Una tecnica della musica postmoderna, ad esempio, è ricorrere a stili, elementi e strutture di altre epoche e generi e svilupparli abilmente con le proprie idee musicali in uno stile personale. Questo si può trovare anche nelle opere di John Rutter, che sono state deliberatamente create sotto l'influenza della tradizionale musica corale e cattedrale inglese, condita con elementi di forme musicali popolari.
In breve: la musica di John Rutter è ricca di suoni pieni, armoniosi e chiare linee melodiche. Gli arrangiamenti sono progettati in modo tale che anche con un piccolo cast si ottiene una ricca radiosità: nella versione da camera del suo “Magnificat” Oltre a un piccolo coro misto, mezzosoprano o soprano solista, arpa e percussioni, c'è un solo strumento a fiato (gli ottoni sono sostituiti da un organo) e un gruppo di archi 2/2/2/1/1. Qui diventa chiaro che John Rutter si è occupato intensamente della musica di Johann Sebastian Bach: Piccolo sforzo con grande effetto!
Inoltre, la musica di John Rutter trasuda energia positiva quasi ovunque. Anche la sua messa “Mass of the Children” (eseguita per la prima volta alla Carnegie Hall di New York nel 2003), composta da John Rutter in occasione della morte del figlio in un incidente stradale all'età di 19 anni, esprime un incrollabile ottimismo al riguardo.
“Parlando di ‘musica da camera’: c'è anche musica strumentale di John Rutter?”
Sì, ci sono. Rimaniamo con il riferimento a Bach: con il suo “Suite Antique” John Rutter rende inequivocabilmente omaggio al grande maestro di Lipsia e al suo “Concerto brandeburghese n. 5, BWV 1050” - sia nella strumentazione che nella struttura dei sei movimenti , che si basano sullo stile barocco o classico.
