Escape

'Escape suggests a narrative with a central character who must overcome numerous obstacles, lures, and entanglements to obtain freedom. This central figure is represented by a simple musical motive: a descending half-step, followed by a rising perfect fourth. As the fast-paced journey unfolds, this motive is recast in many shapes and settings. ' (Program notes) Escape was commissioned and premiered by the Andover High School Orchestra (Bloomfield Hills, MI), David Reed, conductor. Dur. : 8'
