Sebastian Lee (1805-1887) went down in music history primarily as the composer of pedagogic works. Successive generations of cellist were brought on his studies, duets, etc, which remain valuable aids for teacher. The collection of 40 Studies Op. 40 with the accompaniment of a second cello (the teacher) is designed for beginners (in the first two years of study) and contains excellent finger exercises for the left hand and bowing for the right hand.
